Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp is a new development located on the site of the
old Nanzhila Rest Camp built in the late 1950's, in the remote and seldom
visited southern sector of Kafue National Park. The area is best known for
its lush woodlands of Miombo, Zambezi Teak and Mopane, the beautiful plains
and the stream that runs through it, after which our lodge is named. Nanzhila
Plains offers excellent opportunities to see the healthy populations of a
number of antelope species including Roan and Sable, Reedbuck, Defassa Waterbuck,
Oribi, Hartebeest and Eland as well as all the major carnivores, with a
particularly strong population of Wild Dog and Cheetah. The birdlife is
phenomenal throughout the year, and sightings can almost be guaranteed of the
endemic Black-cheeked Lovebird, the Wattled Crane, Ground Hornbill and
Saddle-billed Stork amongst others.
Main Lodge
The raised, thatched Boma is situated under the shade of a huge Jackelberry Tree
(African Ebony). It houses the lounge and dining area, bar and verandah, with a
stunning and elevated view of the dambo, whilst on the adjoining Kjope we have
positioned our communal open-air fire place which is the focal point of the evening
activities where guests can enjoy a warm fire, a cold drink, good fellowship and
the sounds of the African night.
Thatched Cottages
Currently the lodge is able to accommodate up to 6 guests in 3 well appointed
thatched cottages. Built to make the most of the tranquil surroundings, they have
been built to blend discreetly into the undergrowth without compromising the
magnificent views in front of the lodge. The cottages are spacious, have en-suite
facilities of hot shower and toilet and have been tastefully decorated and provide
everything one needs for comfort and peace without compromising on the sense of
being close to nature.
Safari Tents
We have 3 en-suite safari tents that can accommodate up to 6 people
Camping
We do offer a camp site facility for those adventurous souls who would prefer to rough-it. There are three campsites; each is able to take 2 vehicles and they are located approximately 500 metres away from the lodge under the tree canopy overlooking the dambo. The campsites are purposely rustic and the only facilities are bucket showers and bush toilets. Firewood and water are supplied and a member of staff is on hand to assist with getting your fire started and making hot water for your shower.
